This page tells of the history and heritage of First Assembly. Click Play below for a look into the past.
First Assembly of God has a long rich history in the Lafayette community. In 1952, God placed a burden to start a work here in Lafayette on a young couples heart. That young couple was Rev. Robert S. and Irene King, and they followed their calling and came to Lafayette. Pastor King served as a chaplain and soldier in the Navy during World War II. The couple also served as pastors in Texas and Central Louisiana before coming to Lafayette.
This Assembly of God church was the first Pentecostal church in the area and services were held in a tent on University Avenue, near I-10. Attendance grew and the church moved into its first building off of University Avenue on Arthur St. Later, in the late 60's property was purchased at 605 South College and facilities were constructed and attendance grew. In 1984, the interior was remodeled to expand seating and classroon space.

Rev. Robert S. & Irene King served as pastors until 1994, when they retired after serving for over forty years. The Kings still reside in Lafayette and are active in the church and community. Above is Rev. Bruce & Marsha Headley being commissioned in 1994 as the new Pastor's of First Assembly of God Church. They have a daughter, Bethany and a son, Stephen. The Headley's served as pastors for the next eight years, during which time the church purchased 36 acres of property on Verot School Road. They currently serve with Convoy of Hope, based in Springfiled, Missouri.
 |
Tommy and Lisa Faulk currently serve as the pastors, becoming the third leadership team in the church's history after the Headley's. Under Pastor Tommy's leadership, plans are being developed to complete the new facility to influence new areas of Lafayette Parish and expand the church's ministries.

On November 19, 2006, the 605 South College Road Campus was aquired by Alpha and Omega Spanish Church, birthed out of First Assembly over 25 years ago.
We come from a great heritage and below are a few images that help illustrate. Enjoy.
